Introduction

Your posemesh domain is a 3D map of your space, and virtual real estate on which you can persist digital information anchored to physical locations, allowing you to manifest your knowledge and imagination in the minds of others. It’s easy to set up, so you can be up and running in minutes.

Domain setup guide

It's time to get started with your new domain.

1. Create an Auki posemesh console account.

Your Auki posemesh account will hold all of your domain data and allow you manage its information.

2. Create a domain.

STEP 1 - Sign in to the Auki posemesh console, navigate to Domains and click "Create Domain".

STEP 2 - Name your domain.

STEP 3 - Give your domain a redirect URL, the redirect URL is optional and used for redirecting users to a URL of your choice if they scan a QR code with a non-posemesh-enabled app.

NOTE: Domain data is hosted on a server; if you would like to host your own domain data, please refer to the domain server setup instructions on GitHub. Currently domain data is publicly readable by anyone who can scan one of your portals even if you host it on your own server.

3. Place the portals (QR codes used for calibration) around your space.

IMPORTANT - When placing your portals, at least one must be on the floor — this will define the origin of your domain with coordinates (0, 0, 0)

Already have portals?

If you were sent a pack of portals, place them more or less evenly around your space, a few meters apart. Then continue to the next stage of setup.

4. Download the Domain Management Tool (DMT) app.

DMT allows you to give your domain spatial information, such as locations of portals and (coming soon) knowledge on navigable areas.

The Android app has been tested on the following devices:
- Google Pixel 6 Pro (Android 14)
- Samsung Galaxy S23+ (Android 14)
- OnePlus 9 Pro 5G (Android 13)
- Sony Xperia 1 IV XQ-CT72 (Android 13)

Because the app uses the device's SLAM (simultaneous localization and mapping) algorithms, it is recommended to use higher end devices similar to the above running Android 13+; otherwise you may notice performance issues and the positioning of portals may be inaccurate.

5. Calibrate your portals into your domain using DMT.

STEP 1 - Login to the DMT app with the same credentials you used for the Auki posemesh console.

STEP 2 - Select the domain you just created and click “Enter domain”, then “Continue”.

STEP 3 - Scan your first portal, which should be the one on the floor that you chose to be the entrance point with coordinates (0, 0, 0); once the first one is captured, your coordinate system has been set up

STEP 4 - Click “Add additional portals” and walk slowly around to scan each portal; when it has been captured it will turn green and you can move on to the next one.

STEP 5 - After you’ve finished capturing all of the portals, click “Finish domain setup”; you should now see digital representations of all portals in their respective locations.

STEP 6 - If you missed any, click “Add new portal”, scan one of the already captured ones to calibrate into your domain, and then continue capturing the new ones (go back to step 4).

Best practices

Placing portals in the domain

  • In general, larger portals are preferred for greater scanning distance and angle.
  • Remember that the origin point portal must be on the floor.
  • Choose an origin point with 2-3 other portals within direct line of sight and with easily verifiable rotation.
  • Place portals at intersections of walkable areas and along corridors/aisles a few meters apart.
  • In long corridors/aisles, try to place portals in line with each other.
  • Where possible, use floor features such as tile lines to keep the orientation of portals consistent.
  • If possible, there should be distinct features (such as tile lines or objects) around the portal; this improves SLAM accuracy (SLAM stands for Simultaneous Localization and Mapping; this is how your device keep track of its own pose within its environment).
  • Avoid placing portals in corners; this also improves SLAM accuracy.
  • Avoid placing portals where all or part of the QR code may be shadowed; this makes it easier to scan them.
  • Where possible, avoid placing portals on highly reflective surfaces.

Capturing portals in DMT

  • Ensure that the space is well lit and no portals are shadowed.
  • After capturing the origin point portal, avoid jerky movements and move slowly to the additional portals to minimize drift.
  • Using a gimbal helps to minimize drift as well.
  • Try to keep some distinct features in the frame while moving between portals to help with SLAM accuracy.
  • Periodically return to previously captured portals to recalibrate; this will reset any drift that has occurred.
